A new glance of Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccon City focuses on Jill Valentine, character that will play the Hannah John-Kamen actress. Among the short scenes we can see in the video, there is one that immediately stood out between Fans of the Capcom Saga: a discreet reference to the famous Jill Sandwich, iconic phrase of the first franchise title.
The phrase became so popular, that Capcom began to include winks towards her While the phrase does not contribute anything essential within video games, including it in Welcome to Raccon City is a wink that will easily identify many players, and that it also strengthens the film approach that was previously commented: to be faithful to the videogames of Capcom.
How was the phrase born? In the first Resident Evil, Jill Valentine is trapped inside a small room where the ceiling begins to descend. Fortunately, her partner at S.T.A.R.S, Barry Burton, was on the other side of the door, and Jill manages to escape a safe death thanks to him. That was very close, you almost become a Jill sandwich, Barry said at the conclusion of this scene, and from there, the community immortalized the phrase.
It was so much the madness that surrounded the phrase that the Capcom himself joined the party, placing small winks in future deliveries, and even in franchises of alien to Resident Evil. One of the best known examples is the restaurant called Jill s Sandwiches found on the first delivery of Dead Rising.
Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccon City will include, in addition to Jill, known characters of the game of videogame, such as Chris Redfield, Leon Kennedy and Albert Wesker. The film will premiere the next November 24 in the United States, and December 30 in Spain.
