As it was established to complete and withdraw money, the Kickstarter campaign for physical hardcover versions of Philip Summers's hand-drawn game guides and Dreamprism Press has been canceled. If you missed the initial campaign, basically it was about raising funds to publish guides with, as its name indicates it, hand drawn art for video games as the legend of Zelda, metroid, ninja gaiden, and contra. However, because they are gesturing legal problems with what is supposed to be at least one of the owners of those IP, everything is discarded. Before cancellation, the Kickstarter campaign had collected $ 322,337 in promises.
It is worth noting that Summers and the team apparently have been taken all this incredibly well. The official message of the group admits that there are few resources here, do not possess the rights of Zelda or anything, even though the campaign was extremely clear that these would always be non-authorized. The intention, as the original campaign points out, had always been to fall into legitimate use, but it seems that at least one of Nintendo, Konami or Koei Técmo threw a wrench into things.
Even more important to keep in mind is that we still do not have all the details in order. We decided to end the campaign to be sure. We did not want the money to change hands, then discover that we could not print the guides or something drastic.

Here is the full update of the Kickstarter campaign, just before it was officially canceled:
Hi everyone! Well, they just received their cancellation notice. If it's real. It's done. I made a brief publication on Twitter that I will share here.
It was always a risk.
Tonight I disconnected the hand-drawn games guides in Kickstarter. Yes, exactly for the reason why you think it is. I hoped to be able to solve successfully any legal problem, but unfortunately I could not do it.
Is this done forever? I do not know yet. I will discover it in the coming days.
What I do know is that this last month was amazing. You all joined in ways that I did not think they were possible. It was an incredible trip and no matter what happens, I will always be grateful for it. I always knew that all this was a great risk, but I looked like other similar books addressed this kind of problems and did everything possible to learn from them.
Of course I'm disappointed, but I fully understand why this happened. It's okay. I'm not angry. I mean, the moment is totally terrible and I would have helped if this happened, let's say three weeks ago, but here we are! !
I will not talk more about the subject because I do not want to get the waters, but I hope there is something I can share soon.
Thank you very much for the support! They are the best.
It is worth noting that the digital versions of some of these remain available in Summers online. You can check all our previous video game coverage in general here.
